Our History
Action for Protection of Wild Animals (APOWA) established on 20th April, 1999. Six months later, in October 1999, a super cyclone struck Odisha with a wind speed of 300 mph that resulted and caused loss of ten thousand of human lives, millions of animals lost and huge damage to properties. After the disaster, we voluntarily support affected people and engaged in rescuing and rehabilitation process. Saving countless animals and people following that huge disaster motivates our team to carry on our mission. This experience reinforced our commitment and emphasizing the interconnectedness of human and animal survival. APOWA has since expanded its efforts to ensuring resilience against future calamities while fostering harmony between nature and local communities. Since then, we have been working constantly in our selected thematic areas. We have been integrating conservation with social welfare, we aim to create a balanced ecosystem where both humans and animals thrive, ensuring long-term environmental stability and resilience in the face of ongoing challenges.
